I'm Nesting...

Not really...I'm too old~LOL!!! Just a couple of journal pages.

Shhh...it's a surprise!

For those of you who know me well, you know that I lived in California from 6/1998-12/2007. I have a very close friend, Starr, who adopted me when I was terribly new and extremely lonely. We did quite a bit together and I miss her dearly. She and her DH moved from CA to Cabo San Lucas, Baja Mexico, about a year ago. (See what one can do in retirement! I have a loooooong way to go before I'm at that point!)

Starr just turned 60 June 26th, and as a birthday present, I'm going to go visit her. So, what do you get a woman who has just about everything? NOTHING! You make her a present.

Above are three house shaped magnets that I made for Starr's fridge. She will have a mini-me (and a mini her) neighborhood! I figured that I'm going to see her at least once a year (and for sure I'm going down for my 50th birthday in 2011) and each time I see her, I'll make a new house for her neighborhood.

I sure hope she likes them.

Altered Envelope Chunky Swap

These pieces are made from legal sized envelopes that have been cut in half and arted (is arted a word?). They will be made into a chunky book when I'm finished swapping them out. I'm making 8; I'll keep 2 for myself. The theme is wings and each front and back must have a wing, text and a number on it.

Front with insert enclosed

Back with insert enclosed (I've added to it since this scan)
Front with insert removed

Envelope #2...front; back; front with insert removed...

Easy to make but VERY, VERY time consuming. I cut all the envelopes and covered them the first day. Gave myself the canvas in which to work on. I think it works better this way.

Clap! Clap! Clap!

I'm applauding all you great people who are gracious enough to stop by my blog at any given time to visit or sit a spell. You are all wonderful and precious to me!

Someone, Give Me a Hand!!!

Fun, fun, FUN! I'm in a 'Hand Journal' swap. I think it's more like a hand quote swap. I need to make 6 of these. The quotes are on the back, art on front. (Images are from Nancy Baumiller at Crowabout; link to the right.) Too bad I have such small hands. I could have a field day with this swap if my hands weren't the size of a 5 year old!

More Teesha Moore Pillows...

I'm in a Teesha Moore Pillow Swap with a bunch of gals. These pillows are so easy to make; I love doing them. (The videos on how to make them are several posts back.)

These are roughly 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches completed. If you like this size, make sure you cut your fabric 3 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches because they will shrink roughly 3/4 inch all around.

Have fun with them!!!

Before and After

These are the covers that I uploaded earlier. There are subtle changes to the images and I added text to both. Let's see if you can find what images were added to each cover. (It really won't be hard...)

Wings To Soar

Another cover to my Journal Junkin' book. The book is a tri-fold, so when you flip the front cover open, this is what you will see. It still needs to be journaled on. I made a huge mistake with the paint I used to cover this. It has a glossy finish and it was extremely hard to shade. I better pay careful attention next time!

Journal Junkin' Cover

I'm taking a Journal Junkin' class (see link at right) and Nancy Baumiller is taking us step by step through the process. The cover is made from cardboard cracker boxes that have been taped together and painted (hence, junk!). The cover isn't finished; I still have to shade it and then journal on it. If you love Zetti and love to journal; check out the link!

Back Side of Journal Page

Believe it or not, I had a helluva time figuring out where to put the damn words! Do you think this page reflects my thought process just a tad?

C-R-E-A-T-E Banner

These are 6 separate 4 x 4's that make up a "CREATE" banner for a swap that I'm in. Many people are putting danglies, but I'm not quite sure I want to do that. Suggestions?

For a Challenge at Crow About

A belong to a group called Collage Play with Crowabout and each week they have a collage challenge where you have to use the items provided to you. Most of the artists do their collages digitally; I can't because I do not have a program for grabbing the images. I like cut and paste anyway, but boy, what these folks can do with the computer is just AMAZING!!!

Image is 4x6, not large at all.

Last two for swap!

I had to make 5 Heart Skinny pages, so here are the last two. I wasn't thrilled with the color of the background paper I made on the one above, but I wasn't about to make it over again either. I challenge myself, every time I make something, to use everything on my table...scraps, cut out pictures, strips of paper, etc. It's my way of lessening my carbon foot print. So, I used the back ground paper the way it was and tried to make "light" of it.

I love this one!!!!!

Heart Skinny Pages

Here are 2 more pages for the Heart Skinny Book swap I'm participating in. I like these 2 better than my first one. I think I'll go back and add some more to that one. I'm also going to make one for MYSELF! I feel like I'm forever giving my art away. Yet, if I don't participate in the swaps, I don't always get motivated to do art. Does anyone else have that problem? I'd love to know...

Skinny Heart Swap

I need to make 5 of these. The pages are 4 x 8; they'll be made into a book.....

Being impatient can be a GOOD thing!

I was never one for waiting. I want it and I want it NOW has always been my mantra. So why should I be patient when waiting for something to dry?

I CAN'T!

I used my Color Mists from Outside the Margins on Fabriano hot pressed paper. Well, in my I WANT IT NOW state, I decided to use some paper towel to help the drying process along. When I lifted the paper towel, I had this beautiful dotted pattern going across the papers:
Now how cool is this! See, being impatient can sometimes pay off! I connected the link to the color mists above. Just click on the words "color mists".

My Pillow Journal

back (below)

OK...so it's not the best. Everything started out the same size and then...POOF!...it all changed. I actually love the way it came out for my first one. I don't think I'll make my others this large, but this was a great learning experience. This is 8x8. I'm going to make the next one half the size so I can travel with it.

Teesha Moore Pillow Journals

I was blog cruising and found this link on my friend Joanne's blog. It's a set of 4 videos by Teesha Moore on how to make pillow journals. If you are a fabric whore like me, you have a TON of FABRIC that needs to be used. I strongly suggest that you check out these videos. If anything, the journals are worth looking at!

3 Glasses of wine and Celestial Zetti, Act IV

Wahoo! I'm roasted and finished! I just love the weekends. Good wine, good music, good art...and everything Zetti. Time to watch True Blood....pleasant dreams...........

Celestial Zetti Tags, Act III

Sometimes I move like the speed of lightening. Other days I move like a turtle. Today I'm a turtle. I love making these tags, but my Muse has taken a little vacation to Cabo, while I'm here doing the laundry, going to Costco and cleaning the house! Where is she when I need her? Sometimes life is just unfair!

I have 2 more tags to make.....I'm hoping to get them done TODAY!

Celestial Zetti Tags, Act II

I need to make 8 of these little darlings for this swap. Here are #'s 3 and 4. You can't really see the hair on the first one, but it's there!

Celestial Zetti Tags

I'm in a tag swap with an awesome theme..."Celestial Zetti". Each tag is 2 1/2 by 3 3/4 and must have something celestial in it. It also needs to be as zetti as possible. I'm trying to spread my zetti wings. I still feel like I'm too stiff, but it's getting better.

The background paper is the deli paper technique that I posted about last time. The orange tag was covered with old newsprint first and then covered with the deli paper. I'm having too much fun with this paper!!!

Deli Paper Tutorial

There is a really wonderful tutorial on making background papers by Marilyn Rock that you can find here (part 1) and here (part 2). It's done on deli paper and I absolutely love the finished product. The paper is light weight and adheres to EVERYTHING just beautifully. The paper below will be cut up and the swirls that I drew on it will be used for borders.

This paper will be used strictly as background paper to projects. I always make three of each color combination, so I will keep one the original size and maybe journal on it.
Go check out the tutorial and let me know what you think. Better yet, email me when you make something!

The #8 Fish

This is for an -a-thon (yes, a-thon) entry. The theme was Sea. Anything, any kind...

I've had a busy art (& laundry) day!

The weather went from many days of sun and warm temps the past week to cold and rainy this weekend. Since I decided it was a good day for laundry, what better way to pass the time as each load tumbles and rolls? Down to my nice warm studio I went. The Zetti bookmark is for a swap...

and so are these lovely sirens! They are for a "Sea Life" post card swap. This is a 4 x 6 inch postcard. I sure wish my 'girls' were that perky!

A new blog header...

Out with the old and in with the new. I got bored with the other one, Let me know what you think. I'm totally incompetent when it comes to digital art, so please keep that in mind!

Have a glorious day!

Zany Zetti Postcard...

I love vacation. There is nothing better than having no commitments~LOL!!! Oh, how I wish THAT was true! Target, Costco, Joann's, Michael's, post office, bill paying, TAXES, and the list goes on and on. Then I go back to work on Monday and my two younger sons (ages 14 and 18) have vacation. If left to their own devices, they would eat me out of house and home, along with their friends who would come here because I'M THE MOM AT WORK! So off to the grandparents for Tues., Wed., and Thurs. I'm no fool!

With the small amount of free time I had today, I made this postcard for a Zany Zetti Postcard swap. I'm still not nearly as proficient as I would like to be when it comes to Zetti anything. That's why I love this group I'm in. They have the patience to put up with all of us Zetti apprentices. I love learning from the master Zetti Jedi's.

Zetti House Fridge Magnets

I'm in a Zetti Houses Fridge Magnet swap and the whole idea is to make a 'neighborhood street'. I got smart this time...eh, eh, eh...I made an extra for myself. I want to live in my neighborhood, too! I'll swap 5 out and get 5 in return. I'm going to keep Mona because she's in my favorite colors.
